Behind the Mask
ABOUT ME
Hello! I'm Christopher Sharp, a freelance filmmaker based in New York's Hudson Valley. I earned my B.A. in Filmmaking with a concentration in Directing from Ramapo College, where I wrote, produced, and directed several award-winning short films. Most recently, my senior thesis film, Grave Dolls, received Best Directing and Best Screenwriting in April 2026.
My work is rooted in visual storytelling, with a particular passion for horror, production design, and expressive lighting. Whether I'm directing actors, shaping a set's atmosphere, or building a color palette through light, I'm drawn to creating immersive worlds that bring emotion and character to the screen.
MY FILMMAKING APPROACH
Over the past few years, I've worked across a wide range of student and independent productions, gaining experience in nearly every corner of the filmmaking process. As a director, I believe in leading with preparation, enthusiasm, and a clear creative vision. As a collaborator, I'm especially drawn to the visual side of storytelling: color, production design, props, wardrobe, and makeup.
If there's one thing my collaborators quickly learn about me, it's that I'm incredibly detail-oriented. I care deeply about making every frame intentional, while keeping productions organized, efficient, and enjoyable for everyone involved.
MY MISSION
I grew up finding comfort in monsters. While others saw horror as something frightening, I saw it as a world of imagination, empathy, and escape. Since the age of six, I've dreamed of becoming a horror filmmaker, and my mission remains the same: to create stories that make the strange feel familiar, the misunderstood feel seen, and the darkness feel a little less lonely.
“The first monster that an audience has to be scared of is the filmmaker. They have to feel in the presence of someone not confined by the normal rules of propriety and decency.”
— Wes Craven.
